Social Work Department Services The NGMHS Seven Social Work offices which operate in Mamelodi East Mandela, Nellmapius, Mamelodi West, Atteridgeville, Soshanguve Block H and S, each office renders services to individuals, couples, families, mental health care users and statutory services to children in need of care and protection.

Mandela Social Work service

The office was established with the aim to provide statutory services that was identified in the area after there was a high rate of orphans and vulnerable children in Mandela Village (Far East of Mamelodi). In most families; closest family members are struggling to take care and give support to their grandchildren’s basic needs. Past years the office has successfully rendered statutory services up to 500 households and 330 orphans and vulnerable children.

Soshanguve Block H Social Work service

The office was establish in 2007 with the aim of providing Social work services to individuals, couples, families, mental health care users and statutory services to children in need of care and protection. The office consists of two Social Workers, three Auxiliary Social Workers and students.

Soshanguve Block S Social Work service

The existence of the Soshanguve Block S office was identified by the community members whom were in need of social service professionals in their area so that they will be more accessible to meet their social needs. The office renders both statutory and the mental health services in the area. It consists of three social workers, one Auxiliary social worker and students.

Nellmapius Social Work service

The office is based in Nellmapius Ext 2, their services include assisting children in need of care and protection through foster care grant application and placements of which normally most of the application are successful. The office embarked on several mental health and foster care awareness in the area. The office has one Social worker, Auxiliary Social worker and volunteers.

Attridgeville Social Work service

The office was established with an intention of assisting impoverished and disadvantaged community members, by doing supervision, support to Mental Health Care Users, families, foster care clients and parents. The office also specialises in foster care and mental health care awareness creation in the community through talks and pamphlets distribution. The office consists of two Social workers, one Social Auxiliary and volunteers.

Head Office Social Work Office

The main responsibility of the office is to give support to Mental Health Care Users in the whole of Pretoria. During 2016/17 the office managed to establish a working relationship with Hercules clinic where they do intake every Thursday and they are also focusing more on the awareness campaigns which are helping a lot in teaching the community about mental health issues

Statutory Intervention

The statutory intervention includes providing proper support to mental health care users and their families and also providing supervision to foster care clients. Creation of Mental Health Care awareness campaigns were community are meet social work professionals through talks and pamphlets distribution.
