A Journey of Compassion and Growth: Celebrating 69 Years of NGMHS
This year, North Gauteng Mental Health Society (NGMHS) proudly marks 69 years of unwavering service, compassion, and community care — a legacy built on love, resilience, and hope. Our Annual General Meeting is not only a time to reflect on our milestones but also a celebration of the countless lives that have been touched, healed, and empowered through the years.
From humble beginnings in 1956, NGMHS was founded on a simple yet powerful belief — that every individual living with mental illness or intellectual disability deserves dignity, care, and the opportunity to thrive. Over the decades, that belief has grown into a movement of compassion, reaching deep into communities across the North Gauteng region. Through our Special Care Centres, Protective Workshops, and Outreach Programs, we’ve continued to nurture individuals with mental health challenges, helping them rediscover their potential and purpose.
Our journey has not been without challenges, but our commitment has never wavered. Each year, new faces join our family — caregivers, social workers, volunteers, students, and partners — all carrying forward the mission of building inclusive communities that understand, support, and uplift those in need.
The 69th Anniversary and AGM serve as a reminder that NGMHS is not just an organisation, but a home of hope. It is where stories of recovery begin, where lifelong friendships are formed, and where the human spirit shines through even the hardest days.
As we step into another year, we do so with renewed dedication — strengthening our partnerships with the Department of Social Development, expanding our community outreach, and continuing to provide holistic care that respects every person’s mental wellness journey.
